Worldbuilding Workshop at AltCity

Worldbuilding Workshop at AltCity

I’m doing a world building workshop from a literary point of view at AltCity on the 7th of October to the 11th from 7 pm to 10 pm. The entire thing is best for world creation from a beginner to intermediate level. As long as you can write, you are set.

Day 1 will be about GDD’s, the Story and Art Bible.
Day 2 World Building – do’s and don’ts, creating the neverending story, fictional realism.
Day 3, Cartography for games
Day 4, Landscape design, how to convey the story to the artist. For example there was a war here 50 years ago, between the two sides of the populace, which shaped the environment due to magic.
Day 5, Character design, building the backstory and how to make it both believable, and relatable.

The price is 200 usd, with a 25% discount to students. More information can be found with the link below or by clicking the flier. This is going be a lot of fun!

Power cuts

So Beirut is being hit with power cuts every now and then. Last night it was cut from 12 am till 6 am. Throughout the day the generators are also going on and off every 3 hours. So my problem with all this isn’t the occurrence, but instead that my computer’s battery is non-existent. So the power cuts means that it will shut down, and I do not save enough to keep it from being discouraging. Did you know that there are parts of Lebanon where it’s the reverse of Beirut? In terms of electricity, where Beirut usually has 3 hour power cuts each day, outside it is the reverse with only 3 hours of electricity? Bad management, corruption, you name it.

Anyways, the reason I’m saying this is because I’ve been trying to keep up with the one painting a day being uploaded, but with yesterday.. Another interesting fact, wednesday is the popular day of the week for the site, so I’m going to try to post something a bit more interesting then!

Design it. Brand it. Donate it.

So some friends of mine at afishinsea are holding an event during Beirut’s Design Week 2013. As the name implies, you would be designing items, both 2D and 3D to be donated and sold, the funds going to the CCCL. If anyone is in the local area, the event is going on the 25th to the 27th of June from 10 am to 2 pm. Sign ups and more information can be found at the link below.

Two Lebanese studios, Kashida and a fish in sea, have joined forces to conduct a common workshop involving product design and branding. Both studios are opening their doors to participants to be part of a workshop where the goal is creating a branded product that will be donated to YAD by the Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL), the CCCL’s specialty boutique.

Exhibiting Art – What’s coming soon

So, we have 4 exhibitions coming up next month, each one around 12-14 + paintings. Two in Gemmayzeh, one in Mar Mikhael, and one in Hamra. Right now though, 2 paintings are being exhibited at Captain’s Cabin, and 2 at Citizen Smith. I need to actually drop off a new one at Citizen Smith, as one was sold the moment it was put up. (Which is really fantastic).

So, 2 places being exhibited now, and 4 coming up next month, more details on that as it goes through the process and becomes finalized.

That took too long

The Rabbit Hole piece took too long, to do, as well as upload. I guess it’s because I’m comfortable with GIMP, but 5, 6 hours and another 1 hour to upload needs to be cut down. Bah, anyways, next piece should be the one for Samar or Garage.

I’ll be printing t-shirts and helping out with “House on Mars”, Beirut, so I need to write down a business matrix for t-shirts for them. I’ll be going back to the network cafe today and finish up the painting, also was invited to a dinner later so there is that as well. Fun.

Thoughts on the upcoming competition.

So there is a game design competition being held soon. I think I mentioned that before. I want a team of four.

  • Coder
  • Writer
  • Sound
  • Art

I don’t want it to be among friends, but four people who can work together to make as many games as they can, with the purpose of making as much money as they can while dishing out high quality works. The competition is going to be for 3 months, with no rules saying that we have to start from scratch. So why stop at just one?

The meeting about the rules of the competition is on Monday. I’m sure that other people have already made their groups as well. To be honest though, if I find a good group to work with, I am not going care about the competition as much as working with the (men and/or women) to create as many games as we can.

There is no reason why we shouldn’t.
